the unwarranted (kind of) return of diversions!

about fourteen(!) years or so ago, jon bentley put together a band to feature his compositions in an electric jazz context. the trio consisted of himself on saxophones, bass clarinet and a multitude of electronic effects, chris gestrin on rhodes electric piano, micromoog bass (or sometimes the chroma polaris) and me on plain old acoustic drum set. coincidentally (yet somehow not interestingly) our very first performance was at cap college for my third year recital. we were billed as "accidental death", a name inspired by some junk mail jon received from a life insurance company. eventually our name became "diversions" and we recorded an album and performed a bunch of shows (many of them at the much-missed sugar refinery).

anyway, this saturday we are not re-visiting the repertoire or approach of diversions. but we are reuniting the original line up, this time to play some improvised music and soundscapes. it should be pretty cool!

new diversions (not really)

jon bentley - saxophones

chris gestrin - keyboards and electronics

bernie arai - drums & cymbals, electronics
